FAQ

Below are the answers to some of the most common questions I receive.

Can’t find your question here? Send me a quick email and I’ll be happy to help you.
  • 1. What is the difference between translation and interpreting?

Interpreting deals with the spoken word. Translation deals with the written word. Simple as that!

  • 2. Which languajes do you work with?

I interpret the spoken word from Spanish into English and English into Spanish. I translate written documents from Spanish, Portuguese and German into English.

If you need a different language combination, I collaborate with a network of trusted and qualified linguists and would be happy to manage your project for you. Just contact me to discuss the details.

  • 3. How much does it cost?

The cost of a translation can vary depending on the subject matter and format of the text as well as the urgency of the translation. Please email me your document and I will send you a quote as soon as possible.

Interpreting is charged on the basis of a half-day or full-day rate and varies depending on the type of interpreting required. Please contact me for a free, no-obligation quote.

  • 4. How long does it take to translate a document?

Generally speaking, I translate around 2000 words per day, although I may be able to take care of a larger volume if you have an urgent project.

Just bear in mind that the longer the deadline you can provide, the more time I’ll have to translate and read over the text before sending you the final version, boosting the quality of the end results.

  • 5. Do you keep information confidential?

Absolutely, I abide by the Code of Professional Conduct of the Chartered Institute of Linguists and always take confidentiality very seriously.

  • 6. What qualifications do you have?
    • First Class Joint MA Honours in German, Spanish and Portuguese with two distinctions in spoken Spanish and spoken Portuguese (University of Glasgow)
    • Master’s degree in Translation and Interpreting (Heriot-Watt University)
  • 7. Are you a member of any professional bodies?

    Yes:

    • AICE candidate (Spanish Association of Conference Interpreters)
    • Chartered Linguist of the Institute of Linguists
    • Professional member of Asetrad (Spanish Association of Translators, Copy-editors, and Interpreters)
  • 8. Why do I need two interpreters per language when hiring simultaneous interpreting services?

Simultaneous interpreting is an intricate and demanding process. For optimal performance, interpreters work in pairs, taking turns every 20-30 minutes.

This collaborative approach is essential for keeping up the rigorous levels of concentration required and preventing mental fatigue, guaranteeing a seamless and high-quality result.

  • 9. Can you provide the necessary audio equipment for interpreting services?

Yes, I work with trusted companies to provide any equipment you may require for your event. Just ask!

  • 10. How can I be sure that you provide high quality interpreting services?

Your satisfaction and successful communication are my top priorities.
To guarantee a seamless experience, it’s extremely important you share comprehensive event materials such as presentations, the agenda, any videos, articles, and a participant list.

All that allows me to do thorough research on the topic and develop a nuanced understanding of the context so I can provide you with the best possible interpreting service, precisely aligned with the context and objectives of your event.
